Wavelength Records splits all profits (after manufacturing and marketing costs have been recovered) 60% / 40% in favour of the artist!
Calling all Music Lovers, Hi-Fi Enthusiasts, Headphone Users, Sonic Adventurers and fellow musicians!
Wavelength Records is a new independent label based at Wavelength Studios, South Yorkshire, UK, specialising in new roots and acoustic music.
Label MD and producer Keith Angel has a long track record of working with some of the best and most respected musicians on the roots music scene including John Tams, Kate Rusby, Roger Wilson and his own band The Angel Brothers.
Wavelength Records is dedicated to the production, promotion and sales of new acoustic music produced by artists living in the South Yorkshire region of the UK.
Keith was inspired to set up the label by the ideas and attitudes of visionary label bosses and producers such as Chris Blackwell (Island/Palm Pictures), Ahmet Ertegun(Atlantic), Nick Gold (World Circuit), Mannfred Eicher (ECM), Curtis Mayfield (Curtom) and George Martin.
Keith’s approach to production is informed and influenced by the work of such great acoustic music producers as Joe Boyd and John Wood and groundbreaking engineers such as Roy Halee and Geoff Emerick.
The emphasis is on natural organic recordings that convey the emotional feel of the session and give free expression to the artists. Many recordings begin life as live takes and - although ProTools HD is used as a recording and editing medium - no samples or AutoTune software are used.
Classic microphones, valve pre-amps and vintage compressors are employed on Wavelength recordings to create a warm and inviting sound that places the listener at the heart of the performance. It’s ironic that, in an age of incredible sonic technology, the listening experience has been devalued and debased. We believe that in an age of electronic interference, noise pollution and mass-produced mechanical sound, it is important to use a range of technologies, both ancient and modern, to produce high quality records that are designed and deserve to be listened to.
We don’t follow fads or fashions - we’ll leave that to the combine of the mainstream McMusic Industry. We’re music enthusiasts on a mission to connect the values and production techniques of the great artists and labels of the 60’s and 70’s with a new generation of musicians and producers. We love old records by Carole King, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, John Martyn, Sergio Mendes, Van Morrison, Pentangle - and newer ones by Kelly Joe Phelps, Midlake, The Arcade Fire, Tinariwen and KT Tunstall.
At all stages of the process - from recording the first note to mastering, artwork and manufacture - it is our sworn aim to give you, dear listener, total aural and emotional satisfaction!
