Ironic that it takes a trip on the cosmic information superhighway to discover something beautiful that’s been hiding right on your doorstep all the time.
So it was with the appropriately named Tiny Little Secrets.
Discovered as they were via the MySpace of their fellow citizens of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Hotel Brown. It was, as they say in internet dating parlance, love at first click – with The Secrets soon joining The Brown on Wavelength Records and commencing work on their debut album forthwith. The two bands have since become firm friends, often sharing gigs, vans, sound engineers, scraps of food, producers and bath water.
Tiny Little Secrets are unreasonably young and talented - though they would be far too modest to resort to such hyperbole themselves. With an average age of twenty three, they make music that has a depth and maturity that belies their tender years and which reflects a diverse range of influences : The solid earthiness of The Band, early Van Morrison; The Doors; The Beatles circa The White Album, Nina Simone, Hunky Dory - era Bowie; Joni Mitchell. All come to mind when listening to the band both live and on record.
Tiny Little Secrets write and sing from the heart and have a rhythm section that’s been raised on the likes of Stevie Wonder, Little Feat, Zeppelin and Marley. They’re not afraid to be diverse, adventurous, ironic – and above all different.
